Maybe should have just saved this one and not opened it as I never realized it was a limited edition beer. Just did the ol’ “never seen this one before” and grabbed it. Could be some fancy print font but sure looks like they hand wrote the packaging date and batch number on the label which is kind of cool. Mine was #6602 09-26-27 And this was my first Kvass so have nothing to compare it to and actually had to look it up.
Poured a light gold with a slight haze and lots of carbonation. Bright white head about a finger thick that had decent lacing but which died down quickly.
Smelt of toasted break and spicy fermented orange
The spiciness came out in the taste a lot and gave it a spicy breadiness and slight acidic raison
A dry feels yet crisp and clean and leaves a light yeast taste in the back of the mouth.
From what I can tell these Kvass’ differ in range of look and taste so without much to judge I have to say it was a well done light beer with much more character than your average light. The smell and taste mix enjoyably and has a good presentation. Bonus marks for making it special for Canada’s 150!
