From notes compiled at the 2006 Southern Brewer's Fest:
Actually from the Rock Bottom in Nashville.
Unfiltered. Pale yet oddly brown.
Smells of rye, spice, honey and floral hops.
Sweet with sudden hops. Lingering bitterness.
Lots of C02, clean finish.
Good, not great. Very drinkable, though.

Dark tawny--much more brown than orange--with amber highlights. The beer looks like iced tea that's been left to steep too long. The dirty beige head disappeared by the time I got my change back and left almost no lace. Muted nose of malt and fruit. I didn't appreciate any rye until it had warmed a tad, and even then it was subtle.
The flavor was also pretty anemic, but good. Fruity initially, it tasted like dried, fermented autumnal fruits such as apples and pears. Midway through each mouthful, those flavors would fade and rye would appear on the scene.
This middle constellation of flavors was the best: toasted rye bread complete with caraway seeds, clove and cinnamon. With more flavor and a bigger body, this would have been killer. The body was light-medium and the beer was excessively carbonated, although not annoyingly so. Pleasant, appley burps.
Rock Bottom's Roggenbier is almost very good beer. Relax the statewide ABV law and put some guts into this sucker and it would almost certainly turn some heads.
[But then again, what do I know? This beer won wdmrock a silver medal at the 2004 GABF].
