On tap at Rock Bottom San Jose (Campbell) on 7/20/09.
A - Hazy pale golden, sparsely carbonated body with half a finger of creamy white head that diminished to a quarter inch of retention and deposited thick lace that outlined the bevels in the oversized mug club mug.
S - Citrusy character with some spicy, yeasty notes suggesting clove and pepper. Some hay and barnyard funk is also present. Hop character is earthy with subtle herbal notes. Pretty typical saison nose overall.
T - Flavor is primarily spicy and yeasty with a good bit of hay and barnyard funk, which provides an earthy, musty character. Pretty significant hop bitterness in the finish with slight sour notes and plenty of herbal and earthy hops. Spicy notes complement the bitterness, suggesting clove and pepper.
M - Medium body with a fairly syrupy texture and bristly carbonation. Spicy on the palate with minimal funk and moderate bitter notes on the back of the tongue.
D - Pretty solid saison. Nothing too terribly exciting, but it adheres to the style guidelines pretty closely.
Brewslut's Quote of the Day:
"It smells like pickles... dill pickles."
