Serving: On tap
A:
Pours a hazy gold with two fingers of creamy white head. Good retention; swoops of lacing. (4)
S:
Sweetgrass and burning sweetgrass layered on a dry, fairly neutral saison. (4.5)
T:
Same as the aroma. Brown sugar, smoky, cinammon like spiciness, caramelized green juice, sweetgrass. (4.5)
M:
Medium-light body with active carbonation and a dry finish. (4.25)
O:
A well-made and thoroughly unique take on ingredients. This is like the alcoholic embodiment (embibeiment?) of sweetgrass. Truly amazing how well the flavor comes through. Tastes like summer chewing a stem and smells/finishes like standing downwind of a brush fire in the western US (and, I assume, Canada). This beer is well made and solid on its own, with an interesting extra ingredient that is well-showcased, it is enjoyable and weird, sweet and dry, smoky and quenching. I am not usually much for "gimmicky" but I gotta say, this beer could easily be either the cure for or cause of homesickness for anyone from the rural West. (4.5)
The only real downside is that the grass comes through so clear (although I was told that previous batches had been way over the top with the sweetgrass flavors) that it kind of wears you out. An enjoyable beers, but maybe not one to drink 3 or 4 of. I ticked the smell and taste down a notch because of this but it is still, in my opinion, a great beer. Unlike anything I've ever tasted (if we're excluding sweetgrass itself).
