The Smoothness is a rich, silky dark lager aged in Jameson Caskmates barrels, directly from Ireland. This collaboration release was inspired by our time at the Middleton distillery for our Jameson Drinking Buddies partnership. The Smoothness opens with a velvety mouthfeel and rounds out with roasted malt flavors and notes of vanilla and oak. One sip and the name explains itself.

This beer looks great. Very dark, with a fluffy tan head that stuck around for a while. The smell is unremarkable, but pretty good ... hints of whiskey. It's the taste that is remarkable, but only after the beer had warmed up from the fridge for half an hour. At the end of my glass, the Irish whiskey flavor was really strong, but still blended perfectly with the dark lager (malty, vanilla). And the mouthfeel was as advertised, smooth as silk. Excellent stuff from Great Divide. From a bottle dated 2017.

Nearly opaque deep, reddish brown body; thick, creamy head. Big roasted grain aroma; roasted nuts; toffee; some charred sugars. Malty, nutty taste; light brown sugar; bitter dark chocolate; a touch of light whisky. Heavy body; smooth and luscious; dense with a dry edge.

The Smoothness deftly adds some whisky hints to this smooth, rich dark lager. There is a nearly oatmeal stout-like lusciousness to the mouthfeel yet it is the intensely satisfying dark malt qualities with the lager smoothness that really sets this beer apart.
