laws makes special whiskey, that has been established, but their barrels are getting out all over town, which while on the one hand is cool, what they do to beer is no longer a mystery, and as such, i found this a little predictable, as most excellent as it is. the whiskey loses some of its magic to beers this big, and while there are all the usual whiskey, wood, huge stout synergies here, it is not to me radically different than barrel aged yeti, which uses other bourbon barrels of which the origin remains a mystery (at least to me). there might be a little more whiskey on this, like freshly drained elements in play, but its quite similar overall, maybe a little more hot, a little more woody, and with a somewhat more pronounced dark chocolate and char presence, but still a known entity to me. i think something like a big brown or even a baltic porter would be a better showcase of the barrels and their specific nuance as a laws whiskey feature, but i like this an awful lot, dont get me wrong. thick and as smooth as ever, robust on the dark grains, and perfect in the middle of winter. perhaps they should bottle some and we can all see if the unique laws whiskey comes out more overtime as this all mellows and integrates. overall a great example of a barrel aged imperial stout, but so is barrel aged yeti...
