This unique version of our monstrous Yeti Imperial Stout is aged for at least 12 months in whiskey barrels from our friends and Denver neighbors at Laws Whiskey House. The aging process produces a hugely complex but mellowed Yeti, with its signature roasted notes, hints of anilla and oak, and spirit-influenced finish. Who says you can't tame a beast?

Look - A solid black color with a thick brown head and good lacing.

Smell - Smells of chocolate, roasted malt, whiskey, oak, and vanilla.

Taste - Taste follows the nose - chocolate, roasted malt, whiskey, oak, and vanilla. Slightly bitter.

Feel - Creamy and nicely carbonated, a very nice mouthfeel for a stout.

Overall - This is a good stout. I personally prefer a little more sweetness, and a little less bitterness, but that's me.

Aroma is fruit, whiskey, peanuts/almonds and a hint of sweetness. The flavor is fruit/dark fruit, dark malts and a very warming bourbon/whiskey/slightly earthy/acidic finish.

The pour is stout black with, for a 2 year old barrel aged stout, a huge light brown head that left copious amounts of lacing.
The taste is, for a Yeti, quite smooth. As in chocolate and coffee and a tiny touch of whiskey. I can’t discern the barrel presence but the hops? Malt roast? Whatever causes the bitterness in Yeti makes itself known. Not in a bad way at all, a welcome bite from overly sweet barrel aged stouts.
The feel is nicely viscous, an enjoyable beverage to quaff.
OA, not a fan of normal Yeti but this rather rocks.

2024, canned 9/5/24.
It poured a decent dark beige head that hung around a little before turning into a ring of foam.
The nose is boozy whiskey nose and a sharp boozy whiskey taste. There's also a graham cracker feel. It has a roasted flavor, of course, but the short sharp shock overpowers it. Vanilla is seeping in as it warms in the snifter.

LAWS Whiskey Yeti (2024) from Great Divide Brewing. Purchased at Franklin Beer (Franklin, PA) 11/03/25. 16 fl oz can, $ 11.00 (Including tax)/ $ 0.688 fl oz. Reviewed 12/04/25 (Review 3501). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED ON 9/5/24.” Stored in reefer at distributor and at 39 degrees F at home: served at 57.5 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 60.9 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Ruby Brown (SRM 24), nearly opaque.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, opaque with light penetration at only the bottom edge – ruby.
Head – Average (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), tan brown, high density, average retention. Drops to a 0.8 cm crown and a rocky, complete cap, turning biscuit as it oxygenates. A wide band of open lacing remains.
Lacing – Excellent! Wide band of tiny to near-microscopic bubbles coating the inside of the glass, breaking into extremely torn curtains along the upper extremes.
Aroma – 3 – Virtually none. Weak roasted malt, no hops, no yeast, no alcohol. Especially neither whiskey nor barrels.
Flavor – 4.5 – Begins bittersweet. No yeast, no hops. Distinct roasted malt. No alcohol (12.5 % ABV, according to the label). Some initially weak whiskey overtones do come to the forefront as both the temperature and time of palate exposure rise. Unfortunately, there is next to no oakiness as well as nothing resembling my morning coffee. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Mild gastric warming. Ends slightly sweet.
Palate – 4 – Medium: creamy: soft carbonation
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.

Final impression and summation: 4 None of the advertised vanilla, naturlich! Honestly, I haven’t seen a base Yeti in years, so I can’t comment on any changes from the base beer, but this brew, taken alone, is OK – nothing special – just a basic imperial stout.

S - Chocolate char, oak, and Whiskey.

T - Light Chocolate up front followed with some oak, Whiskey, and low bitterness initially which gradually builds.

M - Medium body with pricklies around the edges.

O - Very solid and stoked to have tried this one!

Poured into a Great Divide tulip. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque in the glass with a two finger chocolate head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bakers chocolate, whiskey and woody oak. Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, bakers chocolate, coffee, raisins, woody oak and a little vanilla; toasted malt, coffee and whiskey finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and nice mouth feel. I kept this longer than anticipated, but this big stout survived the year nicely and I imagine it might have smoothed some rough corners. Yeti has always been one of the best domestic RIS and its traditional roasty, rich character shines here. The whiskey barreling is a clear note, but well balanced. Woodier than I expected, but the deep malt base makes it work well. Complex chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes too. Looks and feels great. An excellent barreled RIS. Kudos to Great Divide.

Pours like molasses. Thick foamy lace on the glass. Not a lot of head. Whiskey and chocolate are dominate. Feel is oily, thick, chewy. I have yet to indulge in a YETI I didn't care for. Looking forward to the next one.

Great Divide Whiskey Barrel Aged Yeti Imperial Stout, 12.5% ABV. Pours thick and black with a four-finger dark-brown head that slumped in the middle, leaving a foam cup with solid foamy lacing. Aroma is whiskey, light chocolate, and roast malt. Taste is roast malt, licorice, coffee, and whiskey, very faint sweetness, heavy bitterness. Decent dry mouthfeel, overall very good.

poured from a 16oz can (dated 9/5/23) into a levante brewing snifter. pours a thick and inky black with over two fingers of mocha brown foam head. whiskey, oak, chocolate, espresso and vanilla on the nose. very roast-forward. roasted malts and strong coffee notes. taste mostly follows but it’s noticeably more chocolate-forward as well as piney and bitter on the finish. medium-full mouthfeel. smooth and creamy with just enough tingly carb in the finish. perhaps a little hoppier than i prefer my stouts but also plenty of chocolate which i love in a good stout.
