Chocolate Cherry Yeti is the newest version in our revered Yeti Series. We’ve tweaked the hop bitterness for this special release and then added sweet and sour cherries and cacao. The roasty malt backbone of Yeti melds perfectly with the cherries and cacao to make this one smooth sipper. A Yeti in a cherry orchard can be a great thing

Name: Yeti Chocolate Cherry
Brewery: Great Divide
Location: Denver, CO
Style: BBA Imperial Stout
ABV: 9.5%
Date: 28 Jan 2020
I am drinking Chocolate Cherry today using a tulip glass. Served it at 48 degrees. The pour created a creamy, two-fingered, dark tan head with excellent retention. The color is a dark brown, nearly black, charting around SRM 36. The beer is opaque with a few carbonation bubbles. The appearance is above average for this style.
The initial aromas are chocolate, cherries, coffee, caramel, molasses, toasted bread crust, char, raisins, and vanilla. Interestingly, I do not smell much else. Chocolate and cherries dominate the aromas.
That differs from what I expected; the aromas do not match the flavors. The chocolate is generic and plain. The other flavors are cherries, coffee, caramel, molasses, bread crust, and char. The cherries are flat and overripened.
The mouthfeel is thin and finishes slightly bitter. The body is medium-plus, and the carbonation is medium-low.
This is the third beer from Great Divide Brewing, delving into the Yeti series. My palate has changed, but years ago, I remember Yeti being this excellent beer that people would hoard; now, I would try it, which I have not consumed. This beer would not be on the must-buy list.

19.2 oz can, canned 9/8/20. Pours dark inky black with a big dark brown head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is roasted chocolate malts with a little cherry.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts and slightly tart cherries with a balancing roast bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice version of Yeti.

Type: 19.2-oz. can

Glass: Tioga-Sequoia 13-oz. tulip
Price: $29.99 for a mixed 3-pack of Yeti’s + Great Divide Brussels glass
From: Cheers Deli in San Carlos (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Nov. 12, 2020
Consumed: Nov. 19, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 28, 2020

Stopped by Cheers Deli for the first time and forever for a sandwich. Picked up a 4-pack of Kern Nelson IPA, but then when I was waiting for the sandwich I saw this deal. After some thought I figured it was a great deal and I went with it. It was three variants of Yeti - Chocolate Cherry Yeti, Big Yeti and S’mores Yeti - plus a Great Divide Brussels glass for $29.99. All ones I wanted anyway (plus the peanut butter one) and for cheaper than most places. Put the Kern beers back and picked this up. Back of the can read, “Chocolate Cherry Yeti is the newest version in our revered Yeti Series. We’ve tweaked the hop bitterness for this special release and then added sweet and sour cherries and cacao. The roasty malt backbone of Yeti melds perfectly with the cherries and cacao to make this one smooth sipper. A Yeti in a cherry orchard can be a great thing.” I’m a sucker for cherry stouts and especially chocolate cherry, so had a lot of hope going in.

Poured a pitch black color with three fingers of tan frothy head. Calm setting underneath the head with no noticeable bubbles. Very good spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled milk chocolate, black cherry, roasty malt, cacao, coffee, brown sugar, cocoa, molasses, nutmeg, caramel, wood, light char and dark fruit. Not as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was much better. Damn this was good. In order got milk chocolate, coconut, almond, black cherry, cocoa, brown sugar, coffee, cacao, caramel, semi-char wood, molasses, nutmeg, dark fruit, bitter dark chocolate, vanilla, leathery tobacco and toffee. Fairly smooth for 9.5 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.50)

Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Just loved this beer. Not as much cherry as I would have thought, but I kept getting the coconut which was a surprising addition. World-class. (Overall - 4.50)

19.2 oz stovepipe can, date 9/8/20

Pours jet black with dark brown head, good head retention. Aroma of dark chocolate and mild roast and cherry. Taste is similar, and only a slight sweetness in the finish. Full bodied, silky feel.

19.2oz canned 9-8-20, opened 1-17-21.
Black stout with a 1 finger tan head. Good retention, falls to a ring. Plenty of lacing left behind.
Roasted malt, dark chocolate, espresso in the nose. Really nice aroma but not getting any of the cherry.
Bitter dark chocolate and roasted malt char...the cherry is very subtle and slightly sweet/tart.
Full body, medium carbonation, hefty bitterness and a long, roasty off-dry finish.
Another delicious Yeti variant.
Outstanding.

2024 - Very Good.

Poured hard from an extra tall can into a snifter glass, forming a few fingers of brown head that soon faded to light lacing. Deep brown body that leaves legs throughout. Smell is delicious dark cacao with just a hint of cherries. Taste follows the smell, with primarily dark cacao with cherries lingering. Some sweetness, almost no bitterness (unlike standard Yeti), but by no means a dessert beer. Just shy of medium bodied, a little oily, and light carbonation. Amazing chocolatey stout that doesn't go too far in any direction.
