Harking back to the style’s roots in Belgium’s Wallonia region, this Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon barrel-aged saison is the latest release in our Wood Werks series. The addition of spelt and rye further accentuate the earthy and spicy tendencies of this beer while the wine barrels lend hints of vinous character and a splash of color.

Pretty. Smell is faint. Taste is bad, bad enough that I don't want to finish it. Like rotten melon. Either it's contaminated, or the combination of the beer and the barrel just do not work. Unpleasant, and lastingly so, mixing with a mild bitter finish. Feel is fine.

Bought at Liquor Shed for ~$9. Bottled January 14th 2019.
It pours a hazy orange, fine small head of foam, good lacing. I see quite a bit of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Next pour...
I smell the red wine aging, coriander, light cloves. A little bit of tartness is suggested.
The Saison qualities are kinda light. Coriander and clove, red wine brings a very light tartness. Kinda boozy to be honest. I get some flavours of pear.
Lower end of medium bodied, light carbonation.
Tasty sipping beer but for casual use for me.
