fun one, unexpectedly awesome, had the bottle a little while now, looks like part of a series, this one fermented in wine barrels with raspberries, and both the ferment and the fruit are fantastic! not much color to this, just a pink hue, some sparkle but not quite fully clear, rusty orange with the pink, short but frothed up half inch of white head relaxing slowly, nice looking beer. the aroma is amazing, maybe the best part of this, obviously real raspberries ripe and retaining some of their natural tartness, easy to place, well dosed, and they set the funk and barrel up well, some complimentary red fruit from the wine barrels, have to assume red wine, and lots of wild type funk too, but also some belgian yeast esters in here, tart without being too sour to me, a little bit weird in terms of the mix, but it works, mouthwatering and fruit forward, woody and mature too, lovely. the fruit drives the flavor too, gorgeous rea raspberry, credit for that, even some cellar time has not diminished the intensity or purity of the fruit, and the wine element is nice with it, very cohesive. the ferment is so interesting, partially wild to me, bretty but weird there, lightly soapy, sweaty, and with some of that cheese character to it, but also resolved with some increasing sharpness, the wood tannins, and the light fruit sweetness softening it. has almost happy accident vibes, not a critique, its just weird, but effective. light raspberry vinegar, aromatic cedar, copper minerality, and wheat way back, subtle white pepper and dried orange peel too maybe from a saison strain in play. nice texture, consistent carbonation and some modest sourness late, but still kind of creamy with the grain and oak. delicious beer, love the low alcohol on it too, and the fruit is fabulous. ill eagerly look for more from this series! this is celebration worthy, very nice!
