Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a large foamy head with average retention and some good lacing. Aroma of sugar is quite inete4nse with bourbon and vanilla notes also easily discernable. Taste is a great mix between loads of residual sugar with some vanilla and bourbon notes with some dry raisins and plums notes also perceptible. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very good though not something I would drink in large quantities since the sweetness level is bordering on gross.

Thanks to Papsø for send this one. Served in a tasting snifter.

A - Quick-dissolving white foam that settles to a thin ring. There are also a few streams of tiny bubbles rising upwards through the largely transparent caramel-brown body.

S - Grape juice, lots of other dark fruits, candi sugar, vanilla, , pleasant bourbon aroma, surprisingly well-hidden alcohol, and increasing sharp oakiness as it warms up.

T - Taste is a touch less successful, as some of the sweetness drops out and is replaced with more oak, toasted grains, and a bit of alcohol bite particularly as it warms up. Otherwise it's mostly caramel, burnt sugars, light vanilla, and some dark fruits.

M - The feel is a bit thin, with zesty active carbonation. Medium bodied, surprisingly little alcohol heat, and a smooth and chewy texture. There's some tannic dryness in the finish.

D - A very nice bourbon barrel-aged quad. I can imagine this smoothing out even more over the next year, although it appears to have mellowed out quite a bit since its release. Would definitely like to have this one again in the future.

Thanks to ibrew2o3 for sharing the beer named for a ratebeer god.

A: Pours a muddy brown hue with a very very small tan head.

S: Aroma of light booze, caramel malt, dark fruit, and vanilla.

T: Boozy with wonderful sweet fruit flavors. Lots of rock candy, brown sugar, raisin, bourbon, and vanilla.

M: On the fuller side of medium, nice subtle carbonation with a bit of a boozy burn in the finish.

D: A nice sipper. Solid beer for a great ambassador of beer.

25cl bottle. Gushes out of the bottle an opaque mahogany color with plenty of sediment. Negligible head. Weird nose; incredibly sweet molasses paired with whiskey. Tangy dark fruits. Woody. Tastes similarly strange, with the sour mash initially followed by a rush of brown sugar and some chocolate. Faintly earthy and woody. Overall sweet with a surprisingly dry finish and noticeable alcohol. Syrupy full body with high carbonation. Not bad for what it is, but I certainly don't want to drink a hell of a lot of it.

250ml bottle purchased at the Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam this past May. It was the last bottle at the time, as I requested another one and they could not produce one. Price was E6.35 or about $9usd.

Appearance: Murky red brown....kinda like a creamy red birch beer. Vanilla Chai 1 2 finger crown that shows some lacing and minimal retention.

Smell: Loads of bourbon, lots of oak, strong earthy malt component, and a nice yeast. Sweet!

Taste: Bourbon and wood up front, then it opens up into some dark fruit....plum predominantly. Some toffee sweetness but not much as the wood and bourbon really overshadow it.

Mouthfeel: Way over carbonated and thin for the style.

Drinkability: It's 12%abv and has a healthy dose of bourbon so its not too drinkable. The thin body and massive carbonation does help though.

I echo some other reviewers sentiments in that I wish I had another bottle to age.

Acquired in a trade. Some Pale Folklore. A slow gusher...the beer is murky brown with a small off white head that quickly dissipates, leaving some scattered lacing.

The aroma is exceptional, with a massive malt backbone. Sweet notes of Belgian candied sugar blanket a distant plum aroma. The bourbon character is outstanding. I'm consistently impressed with how well this style lends itself to barrel aging. Other aromas are of toffee, caramel, and vanilla. The rich aroma all but obscures the alcohol leviathan.

The flavor is quite good as well. I think this is nearly a year old but it's still hot. I can tell this one can be cellared for a while longer, and that it's most likely still improving. The bourbon is not as accented in the flavor as it was in the aroma. The vanilla is more pronounced, and there is a defined oak character existing alongside the booze. I love the flavor of alcohol, but I think it detracts from and overwhelms the other flavors in this beer. The finish is sweet candied sugar, with caramel, and a lot of alcohol.

Medium-full bodied with a medium-high level of carbonation and a sticky, dry mouthfeel. I'd love to get my hands on another bottle to cellar.

25 cl bottle purchased from Cracked Kettle in Amsterdam for around ten dollars, consumed 12/31/08, poured into my Delerium Tremens snifter, reviewed from notes, a blurb from Amager themselves: "This beer is named after our good friend, Mr. Henrik Papsoe, who has reached 10,000 ratings this year at www.ratebeer.com. Mr. Papsoe reflects sweetness and those who have had the pleasure of meeting him have found to their cost that he is sweet, obliging, and solid, yet also complex. He is to be enjoyed in small quantities, but nevertheless his alcohol and generous nature is a delight to be warmed by. Even though Mr. Papsoe is soft, he can easily be aged. Due to long-time aging on barrels, Mr. Papsoe has notes of vanilla, bourbon, and wood. One of the ingredients is a special produced dark Muscovado syrup, which provides him with his full body and sweetness. If you have a sweet tooth that you happily fill with sweets, this beer is particularly well-suited."

The color is a murky brown with orange highlights, one inch creamy light beige head that holds it ground for a long time, nice lacing too, aroma is made up of bourbon, sweet malts, floral accents, dark fruits, apples, and vanilla, oak plays a big role in its flavor profile, middle is made up of caramel that is moderately sweet, finish is nice bourbon mixed with toffee, warms up nicely with a boozy finish, sweet, hot, dry, and sugary mouthfeel, thin to medium bodied, above average level of carbonation for its style, could drink a few more bottles of this and not just because they are real small, light on the stomach, alcohol is not hidden the best but not bad either, pretty good drinkability, one of the best beers I have had from Denmark and that is saying a lot with Mikkeller, Fur, and many other great breweries there, wish I ordered more now, would love to drink again, recommended

250ml bottle bought online from The Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam... Described on the bottle as a Quadrupel aged on Bourbon barrels...

Poured a deep mahogany red colour with lots of yeasty haziness. Creamy head poured loose and frothy and faded almost instantly to wispy covering... no real lacing to speak about...

Lots going on in the aroma... lots of rich oaky bourbon notes mixed with sweet nuttiness - hints of almond and pistachio, toffee and treacle, very woody, musty, some overripe (rotten ?) fruits - apples and bananas, grainy malts, lots of booze, toasted (burnt) raisin bread, light smokiness, some chocolate, butterscotch...

Taste - Very strong (overpowering ?) boozy bourbon mixed with lots of Belgian yeastiness, bready, very woody, musty, toasted nuts, vanilla, very light toffee sweetness, sweet overripe fruits, some vegetal traces, anise - hint of cough medicine, burnt butter...

M&D - Fairly sharp and dry... medium bodied... Way too boozy to be very drinkable...

Overall - A decent enough experiment... not something i'd want a lot of but worth trying... definitely a sipper..
