Near black body with light tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, a touch of coffee and light coconut. Tastes the same, but the coconut is more pronounced. The mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side for me, with moderate carbonation. A little more creaminess would have really elevated this one.

If anyone knows the power of coconut, its the Hawaiians. It wouldn't take long after the craft beer scent makes its way to these special little dots in the Pacific to embrace the fruit and excel with it.
Maui’s Imperial Coconut Porter comes with an very dark brown, easily mistaken as black, pour waxed with an onyx-like sheen. As a soft and creamy mocha froth floats the rim, the decadent scent of sweet coconut and chocolate seem candy-like before a balancing scent of coffee and toast gives the nose a grownup character. Malty-sweet and rounded on the early palate, the porter shares bittersweet chocolate, toffee, caramel and honey sweetness in its early impressions.
As the session extends onto the middle palate, the sweetness wavers slightly and allows the taste to favor the dark roast coffee, heavily toasted grain and cocoa character for a roasty and toasty sense of savoriness. Soothing with vanilla and coconut, the session is draped in a flavor of soft spiciness to pull the flavors together beautifully.
Full bodied, softer than stout, but strong with a sense of kahlua spice, the big porter finishes robust and malty but palate friendly with suggestions of roasted marshmallow and coffee bitterness in a most pleasant way to cap off the night.

On tap at Brew'd, Honolulu. Oddly refreshing in the tropical heat -- the malty porter base is much more prevalent than the coconut adjuncts. A nice change of pace from the syrupy adjunct porters and stouts dominating the market these days. A bit boring, though. Nothing really stands out

Taste at bottle share. Dark brown pour, with small brown head. Tons of coconut in the aroma and taste, more of the toasted coconut variety. Solid porter shines through the cocnut to proivde a real showcase for these beer. Worthy of its high score.
