Draft at Oakshire. Golden pour, fine white head, lacing. Aroma is a mellow malty, grainy presence. Taste picks up with some crispness and a dry, chalky finish. Right on

An Italian style pilsner
Medium light, clear gold look. Herbal and slightly floral aroma, on a bed of lightly toasted and caramelized malt. A good little bite and some sharpness, starts off the taste. Flavors of mixed herbs and some flowery notes, along with light toasted malt. Finishes with sharpness.

Bought two cans as part of my eighth shipment from Beer Drop, bringing me culture that otherwise doesn't get distributed to Chicagoland. Thanks.
My first from Oakshire, I now make my micro-review. Some 15 years and 315 beers on UnTappd, Oakshire is firmly a third generation micro upriver from one of America's great brewing centers. Their most popular beers show accomplished interpretations of the English tradition (IPAs and stouts) with enough knowledge of lagers to make a good pils here. Oakshire exhibits all the feel-good as a gathering spot for a progressive university town and has even opened a taproom in Portland, the heart of Northwest brewing. Oakshire gives a substantial amount to protect its watershed (smart move since per is 90% water.) So, I give good Overall marks... except I think to complement the Italian kitchen's more delicate dishes, there should be fewer hops in their rendition of this relatively new pils styling.
Which brings me to Visit Italia. Refreshing, to be sure. It also Looks pretty and clear and golden, but Smells like not much more than malt. Interestingly, the hops attack immediately my tongue and never quite let go. While an interesting blend and balance of flavors, these hops distract from appreciating my meal of an herby ciabatta and an arrabiata-like tomato soup. Calm the hops next release and this is a good Italian pils. Saluti !

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
