450ml plastic bottle 4,0% Abv.
Served chilled in an over sized wine glass.
Purchased at the brewery.
I had Mac's Porter from Hops Hollow earlier today and sadly it was horribly infected. I hope that Blacksmith's Brew (described as a Hoeaarden like wit) does not suffer from the same fate.
Appearance: Very lightly hazed, light yellow body (one of the lightest bodies I have ever seen!), topped by a good sized white head that displays average retention and leaves no lace.
Smell: Hmmm, this also smells sour, but in a good Berliner Weiss way! Lightly tart fruits (lemons with a touch of orange) and fresh coriander dominate the nose. Warming yields tart green apples and sweet white grapes. This is a very different, but enjoyable nose; it is almost as though the brewer attempted to make a Berliner and then randomly added a bunch of fresh coriander to the mix!
Taste: As with the nose, the flavour is unexpectedly tart, with notes of lemons, orange peel, green apples and white grapes. Fresh coriander and malted wheat are also quite prominent.
Mouthfeel: Light body with a moderate level of fine bubbled carbonation. Very refreshing with a light level of acidity.
Overall: This is the first time that I have had this beer, so I am unsure as to whether it is intended to be tart. Personally, I doubt it, I think the brewer got very lucky and an infection turned a over spiced wit into a delicious Berliner style beer! I will have to re-review this and see if my hunch is correct!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
