Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
A good beer is like a good sound recording, balanced and pristine. Soft and subdued when it needs to be – In your face and crankin’ when it must. Done right, there’s nothing better than critical listening with a cold pint in your hand. Conceived, created, and brewed in collaboration with Tape Op, Fort George now invites you to put on your headphones and sample a can of Overdub IPA. Pouring a solid gold with a crisp white head, Overdub IPA is a sensory overload of mango and papaya hop aromas, dank grapefruit tones, and mellow citrus finishing notes. This session-style IPA turns down the ABV, and engages the lupulin intensity toggle switch.

Can says 11/21/16, either the canning date or best by date.

Look: Thin white head, medium orange body with some floaters.

Smell: Orange, papaya, a little pineapple, maybe a suggestion of honey? Light maltiness. The aroma is a bit weak.

Taste: See above.

Feel: Medium carbonation, light body, little bitterness. Dry.

an from Brewers Haven. Nice and crisp session IPA, pleasant hops bitterness in taste, grapefruit/citrus aroma. Light bodied, enjoyable IPA, perfect summer drink.

16oz can purchased at Huckleberry’s in Spokane for a sum I can no longer recall, along with a 4-pack of 3-Way. According to the stamp on the bottom of the can, this was canned on March 1, 2016. Like Suicide Squeeze, this was brewed as a collaboration with a musical entity – in this case Tape Op – “The Creative Music Recording Magazine” – and lists a website for obtaining a free sampler.

Poured into a Whistle Punk pint glass, this beer was a somewhat chill-hazed golden amber color, with a finger of off-white foam that receded somewhat quickly and left spotty lace on the sides of the glass.

Big tropical fruit aroma to this. I get pineapple, mango, papaya.

The taste is a bit more complex. In addition to the tropical fruits noted in the nose, there’s also a bit of grapefruity bitterness, though it’s somewhat restrained compared to the sweeter fruity notes. Light, grainy malt flavor along for the ride. The finish is modestly dry.

The body is somewhere between light and medium, with a lightly oily mouthfeel.

This packs a lot of flavor for a Session IPA. I was a little worried about the nearly four month old age of this beer but it doesn’t seem a factor. Apparently this is a spring seasonal, and from here on out it’s on my radar.

Once again, Fort George impresses me with a delicious beer. For a session IPA, this beer has lots of character. Beautiful amber color, slightest haze, and bubbly, white head which dissipated away completely. The aroma is light citrus, orange blossom, honeydew melon, mango, and floral. The flavor is superb for a session beer. Hop forward, grapefruit and pine notes, with a bit of the sweet fruit following. The maltiness is moderate, light grain tasting. The mouthfeel is resinous, with a nice peppery bitterness in the aftertaste. Excellent beer.

I had a bunch of duplicate CANs that were taking up space here at Chez Woody, so I solicited locally for "adopted mouthers" to stop by, take their pick of the litter, take them away for drinking, drainpour, w/e & then return the intact empties FFT Jeff Lebo of cansmartbeercans.com. There was no question of CANpensation, remuneration or anything else. These people were simply going to adopt CANs of beer, drink them & return them empty, that's it. Lo & behold, one of them travels for work & he felt inspired to bring this one for me as a token of his CANpreciation. I love The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "A collaboration between Fort George & Tape Op - The Creative Music Recording Magazine. Free Tape Op sampler: tapeop.com/overdub"; "Unfiltered, expect sediment at bottom of CAN - Drink Fresh Do Not Age - Keep Refigerated - Design: Plazm - Please Recycle".

Since it is labeled as being "unfiltered", it only made sense to perform a gentle Glug following the startlingly loud Crack! My effort came to fruition in the form of a gorgeous Yellow-Golden (SRM = 4 -5 ) beer with NE-quality clarity, enticing a visit from the Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus. Once they got done slavering and had their fill, I CANducted an in-glass swirl which raised a finger of foamy, off-white head with moderate retention. Nose had a pleasant cattiness, appropriate for a Session AIPA. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was lightly bitter, kind of like lemon or grapefruit rind or pith and CANtinuing with that cattiness that I noted on the nose. Finish was dry, bitter, slightly imbalanced in terms of its hops to malt ratio, but drinkable.

Mango and papaya indeed! Great session IPA, and perhaps my favorite yet. Cheers!

Fresh clean taste. Citrus hops and light malt are pretty balanced. Refreshing and dry bitterness at the same time. Really good session ipa that is easy drinking and has great taste.

Might be my new summer beer, assuming it could ever make it to Colorado. Friend shared a can. Great look, great grassy and pine smell, with good crisp taste and decent mouthfeel considering its overall low impact on alcohol. This is a great replacement for FW EasyJack, perfect for summer or multiples in one sitting. Impressive.

16oz can into a tulip. Pours a clear pure copper color w/ a 1-finger white head, patchy lace.

Aroma is bright clean juicy citrusy hops, some pine notes too. Bursting with hops.

Taste follows nose. Bright juicy hops over pale dry malt. Lots of alpha acids tickle the palate. Clean and crisp, drinkable.

Mouthfeel is typical of a session IPA. Lighter and less full bodied than a standard IPA, but still plenty of body here to hold up the taste and aroma.

Overall a really nice, straightforward, enjoyable session IPA. Certainly packs a lot of flavor into a 4.5% beer.
