Can from Imperial Bottle Shop.
Jet black with a dark brown head with good retention and lacing, this looks good. The nose is wonderfully roasty with a great grain note. Roasty, toasty, caramelized with brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, coffee and a noticeable oat aroma with a little vanilla. A soft, cracker-like biscuit note is present, a little creamy, a little sugary. Comforting. The palate opens with a roasty bitterness, mildly grainy and mildly cocoa like. A moderate sweetness with a little bit of molasses, brown sugar, toffee and sweetened coffee is present. Mildly bitter on the finish with coffee bitterness present, along with a little tobacco smoke. The orange peel is a very mild accent and is barely noticeable. The mid-palate is a little bothersome, it feels vaguely flabby and undefined. Still, a solid beer.
