I paused when reviewing this beer. I kept hearing my German in-laws, who would surely say "That's no Pils." Germans are traditionalists, and this Pils is anything but traditional.
The barrel influence is strong enough that it's hard for me to evaluate this as a traditional pils. It's oaky and maybe there's a bit of flavor from whatever the barrels were used for before.
I think the underlying pils is underwhelming, but the barrel influence makes this a better beer. If you're a traditionalist like my German relatives, you won't agree, and you should skip this beer. If you're adventurous, give it a try.
