Had this at Baileys the other night apparently it is a keg from 2008.
The ale appears dark red with a small dark tan head.
It smells of fruity Belgian yeast. I get a bit of a raison, prune and citrus type of a smell. It also smells of molasses and there is a malty earthy smell to the ale.
It tastes similar to the smell. I get an initially strong raison, prune and other dark dried fruity taste to the beer. There is a slightly peppery yeast character to the beer. There is a slightly sour like flavor to the beer and a bit of a chalky grainy flavor to the beer. There is an ever so slight noticeable bitter aftertaste to the beer. This does seem like a Belgian barleywine to me.
There is a medium carbonation and the mouthfeel is somewhat thick.
Drinkability is not bad but this is a pretty thick heavy sweet beer so one glass of this is enough for me.
Overall a good beer that seems to have aged nicely. Worth trying if you come across it.
