Jet black with a dark brown head with good retention and lacing this looks solid. The nose is excellent. Fresh coffee, mildly fruity with dried blueberry/strawberry, a moderate roast, some buckwheat honey, a noticeable licorice note. A little bit of char tempers the roast, lending a pleasant bitter edge. Light notes of oatmeal. The palate is luscious, smooth and quite excellent. Great balance of bitterness and roast, with bitter coffee, bitter grain, a moderate licorice note, with the acidity tempering the dark fruit sweetness. Dark, bitter caramel, sweet yet bitter. Dark brown sugar, a little raisin note. Good coffee, delicate and fruity and well integrated. Soft, creamy, luscious on the palate with creamy carbonation, this is so smooth on the palate. Quite a remarkable, well balanced stout with the alcohol well hidden.
