Fanzine IPA is an early spring seasonal collaboration. This year we sat down with our friends at Georgetown Brewing in Seattle and the hop masters at Yakima Chief and looked at each other fondly until this beer popped out of our heads fully-formed like the goddess Athena springing forth from Zeus’s forehead after a long headache. Just kidding, we did a lot of test batches
and tasted them like normal people. The result is the ideal spring beer - packed with hundreds of pounds of the finest Cryo Hops for concentrated bursts of flavor on light, bubbly butterfly wings. Fanzine is the ultimate fan tribute to the beer world’s favorite style: The IPA.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into a Teku glass.
Look- Straw, very hazy, plentiful visible large particulate, white frothy head, average head retention and lacing.
Smell- Clementine, apricot, floral, medium strength of scent.
Taste- Weak clementine and strawberry, overwhelming astringent, highly herbaceous, weak strength of flavor.
Feel- Medium body, highly astringent, average carbonation, mildly mouth coating, high bitterness.
Overall- Great straw color with so many particulate it looks like a snow globe. Very pleasant bouquet of clementine, apricot and floral notes with medium strength. Flavors were very weak and overwhelmed by astringent herbal character. This beer had medium body, but it’s feel again was marred by extreme astringency. Overall the look and smell of this beer were great, but unfortunately the flavors and feel left much to be desired.

Canned 2/14/23. “Beware the foot” stamped on the bottom of the can
More hops courtesy of woemad! Last night started off strong, and I’m hoping that this one can keep up. Naming the beer Fanzine already gives me a positive feeling about it, this brewery just might be in on punk or hardcore culture and that’s always a nice touch. Let’s get into it
Pours a lightly cloudy yellow gold with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
This is nicely vibrant the nose, balanced between fruitiness and hoppiness. I’m picking up on aromas of orange juice, bready malt, grassy hops, pineapple, lemon zest, light black pepper, and grapefruit zest
It’s not quite as vibrant in taste, but still damn solid for what it is. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, crackery malt, orange juice, floral hops, grass, light honey, and white pepper. The swallow brings notes of gooseberry, lime zest, orange juice, brrady malt, floral hops, light pineapple, and grass
A medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a snappy beer. Finishes off dry with a firm bitterness
This one is damn good. Not breaking any ground but it’s very nice

Clear, lightly golden hue; dense, lively carbonation; thick, rocky head, white and semi-creamy on top. Outstanding floral and fruity aroma; light berries and melon. Excellent taste; clean; delicate malt base with a moderate hop bitterness. Medium-light body; crisp; nice, subtle dryness riding atop the delicate sweetness.
A superlative west-coast style India pale ale, balanced and deceivingly complex. Very enjoyable.
Pouring temperature: 44 °F; canning info: DOB: 02/14/23-#505 BEWARE THE FOOT

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Cloudy golden pour, thin layer of tight white head, streaky lacing. Aroma is bready malts with a touch of citrus. Taste follows with a rich, bready malt base leading to a light citrusy buzz. Not that bitter, but what it has stays with you for a while. Smooth, full, creamy

Can from New Seasons
Crystal clear light orange with a dense white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is bright citrusy, pine, light tropical fruit, faintly dank. The palate opens fruity, bitter, citrusy with orange and grapefruit. The mid-palate is clean, bright. Drying, clean, bitter finish. Excellent.

Consumed on draught for $7 at Manito Tap House, Spokane.
Served in a 12oz snifter, this was a clear golden amber, with a decent sized off-white head. Decent lace.
Nice WCIPA aroma. Grapefruity and piney.
Taste doesn't re-invent the wheel, just a nice, old school mellow blast of hop flavor as noted in the smell. I have a fondness for traditional WCIPAs, and this fits the bill for that craving, although it is perhaps a little on the restrained side.
Medium bodied, slightly resiny and oily mouthfeel.
Really nice after work beer. Would hit it again in a heartbeat.

Canned on 2/14. A light haze from the unfiltered beer comes out as yellow-amber. Aroma is light pine and some citrus in the background, nothing jumps out at us. Taste is a dry, hoppy mouthful of flavor, starting with a good blast of hop, followed up with bright bitterness and a long clean finish. All this without feeling like it was a big deal in the making. Considering the partners are two of the few at the top of the PNW beer pyramid, it's not surprising

16 oz. can, part of a 4-pack, purchased from Roth's West Salem market.
$13.99
Pours a clear golden colour, fine carbonation visible, lovely thick and frothy white head. Luscious lace.
very fresh citrus hop aromas. Lemon zest, grapefruit and mandarin. Plus some floral in the background.
Surprisingly the taste has a more earthy hop tone to mellow out the citrus, might even be a bit of dankness lurking. But the combination works well, even in this a lighter bodied IPA.
Good mouth feel. medium to high carbonation in a medium body.
Lovely beer. easy to drink.

Look: Nearly clear bright and light orange with a pillowy head that holds at one finger and slowly settles, leaving webs of lacing behind
Aroma: Peach, mango, Cara cara orange, kiwi, a little pineapple, gooseberries, melon, thimbleberry, fruit-led Cannabis, and sweet bready malt
Taste: Kicks off with peaches and barrage of citrus fruits that come together in a nice fruit cocktail and are followed by waves of mixed berries, kiwi, and light pineapple. The dank elements shine up in the middle and broaden with both fruity and diesel-driven flavors in play before peaches, berries, and citrus return for the close along with a light bite
Mouthfeel: Full, lightly slick, clean, medium-high carbonation, and light but felt dryness on the finish
Overall: This is delicious stuff. I love this annual collab but didn’t realize it was in the wild until I spotted it by the comics on the can and the Georgetown logo. It’s a really tasty IPA with a nice peach/berry/citrus/dank combination that pushes all the right buttons for me and is very well-made, which is expected in my book given the two breweries. Recommended and this will not be my last 4pk
