this is mental, literally absurd, and i will confess to not loving the unfruited original edition, older tasting for being 2023 vintage, which this is too, but this is so blasted with fruit it almost is jam, not lightly fruited, to make the understatement of the century, so purple from the fruit its almost black, jam levels of color, even in the head, foam stains super purple too, and this, without some funky absurdity, smells and looks like something de garde would make, which is saying a lot, this fruit dosage, and its authenticity, and the ferment still being there, it absolutely crushes the original i had right before it. tannic and tart, black raspberry obviously in nose and taste but also black currant, heavy red wine, also spicy esoteric red wine, carmenere, petit verdot, its like both of them, their best, skinny, saturated, plums and prunes, black pepper, sour cranberry, this is quite piquant. pure blackberry juice in the flavor, tangy in a way that authenticates it, oaken, bitter even, carbonic wine, forever finish, sour making my mouth water, then it comes back, then its gone, then its back, then its gone, then its back, the its gone, then its back, then i sweat for it. some body, more sour as it warms but fruity enough to not be more tart than the berries really, grotesque amounts of real fruit in this. woody and permanent, and its wild how much the base beer was pedestrian but the fruited one is so godly, notable in every way, the time here is obviously a factor, but this is transformed with the fruit. overall as good a beer as ive had all year long, and massively unexpected immediately following the lackluster original. it seems unfair that fort george does this many things this well...
