Vanilla Latte Nitro Stout with Sleeper Coffee

We don’t have a coffee problem, we have a coffee solution. Astoria is full of great coffee, but the best coffee (and the coffee that is geographically closest to us) comes from Sleeper. Sleeper Coffee has been open down the street for less than a year and they’re already making the employees of Fort George roughly 100 lattes a week.

another wicked stout from these guys, this one a little more approachable than some of the monsters we had on our visit out to the brewery, done with coffee from a rad shop called sleeper that we also hit up and had some delicious drinks. it also has vanilla beans and is served on nitro, which flatters it tremendously, no sign of lactose even though they call this a latte stout, more the coffee than the milk no doubt, but the nitro head works in that direction too. really pretty dark brown pour, a little bit matte with a perfectly creamy tan nitro head and intricate lace as it drinks down. aroma of darkly roasted coffee, a chocolate nuance to it, fresh tobacco and raisin almost gummy fruitiness, and some nice near burnt ashen bitterness, not too much vanilla at all, what is here is natural and sexy. the flavor isnt overdone, stout elements ahead of added flavor, nice roast to this, dry most of the way, dark bread, french roast type beans, bitter and deep, but no acidity to this from the coffee hardly at all, and it seems super fresh. dark chocolate, espresso crema, warming vanilla only at the end, and a killer smoothness from the nitro, frothed up feeling and airy, yet still hearty, lingering bitterness with the vanilla is all thats left on the swallow. wintery and delicious, balanced in a cool way, expertly crafted, great showcase of the coffee, well accented by the malt bill and the vanilla, this is excellent.
