completely over the top, a small doses thing at this level of residual sugar, but it is what it claims to be, literally a maple donut in the glass, they use them in the mash which is cool, also more maple syrup and vanilla beans in here take it to the next level, doubling down on that dessert intensity, this drinks way bigger than it is, shocked its not an imperial, it has all the body and richness and heft of something much stronger. shiny black and holding a half inch of tan colored head, tight bubbles floating easily on this viscous base. aroma and flavor of maple hard candy, glazed donut, dark chocolate, and nice roast, that bitterness is key in this. its sweet as can be but the maple aspect is genuine and delicious, but it sort of has a cumulative effect on the palate where the first few sips are epic, the middle few are weighty and samey, and the last few are downright laborious, it doesnt warm up real well as the sweetness runs away with it and the vanilla walks the line of being over dosed, good as it is, so i was glad to be sharing a pour with my wife. fuller bodied and just so sweet, i can taste the actual donuts in here and they linger, clever and well executed but its a lot. i think its crazy how these guys make a million stouts and all of them are so distinctive and good, truly astounding volume and quality coming out of this place! this is novelty for me, but its yummy.
