insanely good, sweet and maple forward and delicious in that way, but also grounded nicely by the nuts and the buckwheat, which i can really appreciate, i wonder how high a proportion of it is used, it definitely makes a texture impact too, really cool recipe and rock solid execution as always from these guys. dense near black beer with dense brown head, dense as the bread buckwheat flour yields. light coffee in the nose, sweet maple and vanilla, bitter roast, an almost rye spiciness, and a natural hazelnut element thats subtle but important, fills a neat spot in here, complex and sort of organic. chocolate for sure, espresso, morning vibes all over this one. the flavor is cool because even though the maple dominates, there is quite a lot of buckwheat in the mix, which rules and is real uncommon. the roasted grain has some balancing bitterness that is absolutely necessary, and the hazelnuts are toasty and slightly oily and gorgeous with the maple. this is such a smart recipe, and while maybe its a little too sweet for heavy consumption, its amazingly complex and the patient and contemplative drinker is richly rewarded. the buckwheat is as prominent as the maple if you sort of know what you are looking for with it, so cool. fort george is blowing my mind!
