a light and clear ipa that really is quite simple, a test batch for the future 3 way ipa i believe, its good but its not striking, its overly mosaic forward to me, although i am getting increasingly sensitive to that catty character of late, recognize it so easily now, but its punchy and northwestern and has some bitterness, a simple and fresh malt base, and overall is quite well refined, just nothing really stands out to me about it, could be from anywhere, which really isnt what i expect from these guys, everything they do has so much personality, but i realize this is in testing, not being critical. the hops smell and taste fresh and bold and there is no fall off from the aroma to the flavor, mosaic out in front, some pine there too, woodsy and even a little wintery, oily and rich and kind of dank but not palate wrecking or anything, balanced well enough by this slightly fuller pale barley, bread crust character to it, smells like the bread aisle of the grocery store, and only has a little bit of late sweetness to it. clean on the ferment, a touch filling to me, and this doesnt warm up great for my palate, the mosaic takes over. there is a pungency up front in the taste, fruit candy and maybe tangerine specifically, neat. good carbonation, well refined, basic but effective, i can feel the strength of it by the end. good, but i am looking forward to where they go with it from here. cool they let the public taste their works in progress, a lot of breweries would be stoked to end up at this point...
