BOURBON BARREL AGED STOUT collaboration with GREAT NOTION
A supremely dense and creamy Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout conditioned on over 800 pounds of fresh grilled peaches.
The brewers at Fort George and Great Notion know a thing or two about stouts... and adding things to stouts. Between the two of us, we’ve added thousands of things to stout. But we’ve never added this many peaches.
Peaches and Creamation is brewed in the spirit of the most iconic summer desert imaginable - grilled peaches and cream. Deep, dark and densely creamy.
Blend of Imperial Stout aged for 20 & 24 months in Russell’s Reserve Bourbon, Basil Hayden Malted Rye & Willet Bourbon Barrels.
Conditioned on Fresh Grilled Oregon Peaches & Vanilla.

a collaboration with great notion, sick to find this on tap, couple of breweries who know their way around enormous barrel aged beers for sure, i was so stoked for this. its a neat idea too, bourbon and rye barrels, grilled peaches, vanilla, way cool! the pour is slick and black and leggy and intimidating, but its not flat, as these can sometimes be, a short light brown head sits on top, looks well refined for its size, very high shine. aroma is interesting, its got a less specific peach fruitiness than expected, i get the grilled part, and i do get stone fruit, but i also get raisin and interestingly like a balsamic reduction or something with the fruit acidity and some of the vanilla coming together in that way, oak tannins too maybe contributing to that, chocolate and roast, good espresso, perfectly toasted marshmallow, nice floral vanilla, brown sugar and molasses, heaps of bourbon, more bourbon than rye for sure, great woody maturity, and with a summer sort of essence from the peach, even if its not as in my face as hoped for. the flavor is similar, like the peach is easy to place early, but i maybe thought it would be even more intense, the base stout is so big is kind of swallows some of that up, but the grilled fruit is still apparent and its lovely in here, could take more of it, cocoa and chocolatey coffee, lots of vanilla makes this very desserty, roast and char keep it somewhat balanced but this is super sweet the whole way, more of that umami but still decadent balsamic thing, which i dig, brown sugar and like creme brulee top, fig and date sugars too, some peach recall on the swallow, light hazelnut, driveway sealant, and permanent marker with the seemingly higher order alcohol, some burn to this. silky massive body, so smooth but so palate coating and rich, at first i thought i would never get through even a small glass, but all of a sudden it was gone, enough interest on the palate to keep it drinking. im not going to say this was a little disappointing because its lovely beer, but i did expect and want more peach from this, dont want to be critical of something i loved though, and the peach is still there. fun collaboration, cool that they grilled the fruit, huge flavors in this, killer barrel treatment!

5-ounce pour enjoyed on draft at Noble Hop Bierhaus in Hillsboro, OR.
Black-brown body with persimmon highlights and a thin skin of foam that just won't quit. No lacing, but impressive legs. The nose is dark chocolate, dark fruit (peaches show up, but are thoroughly upstaged by plums/prunes), a dusting of cinnamon, and lush bourbon. Peaches make a better appearance on the tongue before vanilla steals the spotlight. The overwhelming flavor impression is raisins soaked in bourbon, with some peach character around the edges. VERY sweet. Full-bodied with an oily feel that ends up sticky. Well-made, and I'm glad I had the chance to sample it, but 5 ounces was about as much as I could take. Ultimately, the name remains my favorite part of this beer.

Draft at The Handlebar. Black pour, ring of beige head. Roasty aroma, fruity, boozy. Taste is sweet up front, roasty, notes of peach. Taste is sweet, roasty and boozy, light peach notes throughout. Velvety, creamy smooth. Subtle and complex at the same time.
