16oz can
Pours over a finger of brown head into my nonic. Retention is decent and the head leaves a nice film. Lacing is wonderful. Body is pitch black. Looks really good.
Nose is roasty, with underlying notes of sweet cocoa. Smells great.
Flavor leans roasty, but there is some cocoa to balance. Tastes nice.
Body is relatively light, especially for the style, I don’t get much of an oat feel at all. Carbonation is modest. A touch of sweetness, but finish is somewhat dry. Bitterness is higher than it could be. Altogether the mouthfeel is a little abrasive and leaves a little to be desired.
Drinkability is ok but could be better.
Overall it’s flavorful, simple, could be smoother.

16oz can from New Seasons Market. Dark brown pour, thin layer of beige head. Roasty aroma, dark chocolate, coffee notes. Taste is bitter, roasty, mildly sweet, dark chocolate. Light bitterness lingers.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, light coffee and a hint of vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, chocolate milk, a touch of drip coffee. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A easy drinking chocolatey stout with light to moderate oatmeal character. The chocolate in the aroma is outstanding and pleasant in the taste. Light coffee notes in the edges. The body shows some oatmeal creaminess, but not a deep as I might hope. Overall a fine evening sipping stout. Nice collaboration.
