Barrel aged Imperial Stout inspired by the Pirouette cookie

A Pirouette cookie-inspired imperial stout aged for 24 months in Basil Hayden whiskey and Heaven Hill whiskey barrels and then conditioned on cacao nibs, waffle cones and hazelnuts

Instead of a magic pair of pants that connects a group of friends on their summer travels – it’s a magic barrel of stout and whatever we pair with it, it tastes amazing

Sample at Festival of the Dark Arts. Black pour, ring of brown head. Sweet aroma, brown sugar, dark roast. Taste is all aout the sweet malts, molasses, chocolate, treacle with a nice warming boozy kick. Creamy feel.

Tap at Imperial in Portland. Colour is jet black with only a thin wisp on head around the edge. Nose is brimming with cocoa mass, roasted nuts and slightly burnt waffle cone. Palate is thick, chewy moderately cloying and broad in the beam! There's a lot of dark chocolate here as well as profound nutty goodness from the filberts ( as we call them in Oregon ). Dark brown sugar and molasses hits the back palate on the long, coating and warming finish. Yum!

On tap Imperial pub in PDX today.

The beer pours the expected blackish brown color, but with light lacing and good head retention. This has the look of a beer that has seen some pretty significant barrel aging. On the nose there's considerable vanilla, dark chocolate, cherry bourbon and light coffee. Thos really smells great. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this rich, sweet, decadent impy stout. It's maybe a bit sweeter than I would've preferred, but that's splitting hairs. This is great stuff. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with a long, sweet finish. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, though it's pretty readily apparent the abv is up there. So this is very much a sipper.

Impressive beer from the folks at Ft. George. Really well done.
