Christine Celis, daughter of world-renowned belgian brewmaster Pierre Celis, along with Uncle Billy's brewery and Austin Java, introduce the world's first dubbel coffee porter. true to the gypsy tradition, this unique beer is crafted in small batches that will last only a short while. This beautifully rich beer features dark caramel malt and a distinctly belgian dubbel yeast. The effect is a robust yet smooth, deep chestnut-colored porter with demure chocolate undertones from the infusion of organic, cold-pressed Guatemalan and peruvian coffees.

Brown/ruby pour with creamy, khaki head; good clarity and lacing. Sweet caramel malt and prunes aromas. Sweet caramel malt and prune flavors with just a hint of coffee on the backend; some chocolate in the finish. Medium mouthfeel; moderate carbonation. More dubbel than coffee porter - the sweet malt and prune juice flavors overwhelmed the coffee.

16oz can poured into Jester King tulip glass.

A - Pours black with a centimeter of light brown head, which doesn't stick around for long. For all appearances this is a stout.

S - This has an aroma of coffee and chocolate.

T - Coffee is prominent, followed by sweet dark fruit and caramel. There is a roastiness to the malt. Low-to-moderate bitterness as well.

M - Thick body with low carbonation. Velvety smooth and creamy. This drinks like a heavy stout despite it being a dubbel/porter. A little more carbonation would have been good but the mouthfeel is still really nice. I love how chewy and creamy it is.

O - An interesting brew for sure. The marriage of coffee and Belgian yeast works really well, and the thick mouthfeel really sets this over the edge.

I had a sample tonight on a recommendation from my server. I have been going to this place for a long time and I trust his judgement. The beer did not disappoint. I had to let it warm for a while before the flavors opened up. There is some roasty bitterness and definite coffee notes. As it warms the dubbel style becomes more noticeable. It's got a sweet malt backbone and it there is a pleasant booziness. I enjoyed this beer very much and would recommend it if you get a chance to try it.

Nothing special here. Very little coffee flavor. Quite bland.
