On-tap at Uncle Billy's, served in a standard pint glass alongside a plate of pulled pork.
The Smokehouse Porter is a beauty: well-retained, creamy tan head atop a deep seal brown body that lets in ruby red hues in the sunlight. Nice aroma, although I found it to be more Porter-esque than that of a true "smoked beer". Roasted chocolate malts balance nicely with earthen hops and some raisin notes.
Good flavor, played nicely off the spiciness of the BBQ as the chocolate and caramel picked up a twangy, tart hint on the finish. Finishes well, as the roasted grains tussle with hops and dark fruits. Mouthfeel is crisp, appropriately medium-bodied, and smooth on the intake. Solid beer all around, and one I'll gladly have again.

a mild brown with light head.
smell was nothing fantastic but at least enjoyable. the flavor is good enough to keep me comin back but certainly nothing to rave about.
doesnt leave a thickness in your mouth like some porters do, nice and smooth. at in house prices this beer is a shoe in during my visits to uncle billys 6.1% abv is around what i like for porters too.

Black, real black. Brown thin head. Stout like. Good lookin. Slight smoke aroma and flavor. Malty porter flavor as well. To me I want more smoke. Smokiness was not strong enough for me. Smooth, but zesty maybe a bit to overcarbonated. But I liked it, call me crazy. A nice porter. I could seeing it easily going with their BBQ, which I was not having at the time. Solid porter.

Dark brown, close to black. 1/2" beige head falls to 1/4" quickly. Sheet of lace. Chocolate, mild roasted malt and subtle smoke in the nose. Bakers chocolate...dry powdery kind. Coffee with cream. Complex malt with layers of flavor. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, low carbonation. This is one hell of a beer and what a match for the brisket and pork ribs. I had not been here in a while before this last weekend and I left very impressed and looking forward to going back.

Pours black with creamy lasting thick tan head and looks very inviting. Smell is not overwhelmingly smoky but noticeable nonetheless and couples nicely with the roasty malt. Taste is nicely and pleasantly smoked, and is just a bit thin flavorwise, I thought. The flavor trails off rather quickly, but what is there is still quite nice. Very drinkable, and I had no trouble downing the pint. Another nice brew, and a solid smoked beer.

Appearance: Deep obsidian in color, with a moderate tan head, and thick, glass-coating lace.
Aroma: Incredibly rich and pleasing smoky aroma of smoked malt, coffee, chocolate, and bitter cocoa, quite beguiling.
Taste: Incredibly smoky aroma at the open, which carry throughout the taste. Nonetheless, substantial maltiness is present amongst the smoke. Finishes with a mild, lingering smoke note
Mouth feel: Smooth and soft, very full.
Drinkability/notes: A superbly-crafted example of a style which is quite difficult to brew well.
Sampled on tap at Uncle Billy's on October 13th, 2007.
