Uncle Billy's Woodeye Rye IPA
7.3%
Had on tap 2/25/2011
a - clear dark copper, medium white thick bubbly head
s - citrus piney hops, bit of boozy fruit extract sweetness and pungent from rye.
t - lots of bittering hops, orange peel acidity, sour pungent rye and acrid bitterness. It's got some good alcohol heat and fortitude, and some crystal malt sweetness. Balanced, but the bitterness builds and is on the puckering somewhat acrid side.
m - medium bodied, average carbonation
d - a well done rye ipa, but bitterness gets a bit intense and build up.

Weak head but good lacing. Dark cloudy amber color.
Spice from the rye and sweet from the speciality malt. Spicy hop notes as well.
Fairly malty but a good bitter back on it. The rye seems to spread itself across the palate. Comes up well on a good burp...
Medium body that is fairly chewy.
Want more but I have others to try.

Sampled on tap at the brewpub.
The beer pours a murky brownish-orange color with a large white head. The aroma is rye malt and citrus, with the rye really coming through. The flavor is rye, citrus and pine with some medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

poured from a growler into a pint glass. pours a crisp clear and thin brown. slight transparencies when held to the light. two and a half fingers of creamy white head which disappears relatively slowly and leaves alot of lacing.
big hop aroma. mostly piney from the simcoe but a slight floral hint as well. a fairly standard smelling ipa, but a tad sweeter and very pleasing to say the least.
the taste is heavy on the rye but the hops are not entirely left out. the sweet is big in the beginning of the sip but fades very quickly and lets the hops do their thing.
the mouthfeel is fairly dry, not unexpected. but i would have liked a bit more of the oil presence left by flavoring hops. mostly bitter, but with some lingering hop notes.
drinkability: i got mine during uncle billys tuesday pint nights. my growler refill was only 10 bucks!! perfect some fresh, big hop goodness without a big price. looking forward to snagging one more growler of this before it goes out.

Had a couple of these last night.
Nice Dark brown color. Good 1 finger solid head.
Smell: Spicy hoppy aroma.
Taste: Good bitter taste. Also the spicyness of the rye comes out real well. This one gives me my hop fix and I love the rye character.
M/D: wonderful.
An excellent IPA -- My favorite beer for this week!

Pours dark amber with a soft off white head. Stellar. Light hop aroma. Maybe some rye aromas. Hops and Rye for sure in the flavor. Oh man, just great. Good rye dryness. Very good, very drinkable. Zesty, medium bodied. This may be the best beer I have had at Uncle Billy's. Only thing that misses out here is the aroma.

Hazy, very dark, unfiltered brown with a 1/2" beige head. Excellent retention and thick lace. Piney hops and dirty, earthy malt rule the aroma of this one. Works well. Light roasted malt flavor, caramel. Rye spiciness and piney hops in a long, lingering finish. Unfiltered, rich and complex. Medium to full body. Creamy mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Very impressed...this is a very, very good beer.

Wow, what can I say other than I wish they'd make this a regular staple... Pours a rich murky chocolate shade with suspended particles and a small head atop. Smell is big fresh, bold hops, and loads of rye. Very aromatic and inviting. Taste is hoppy, and strongly of rye zestiness and a bold biting flavor, and incredibly drinkable. Reminds me of Bear Republics Hop Rod Rye, but I found this to have a sharper rye flavor and more satisfying crisp biting bitterness. I loved this one.
