Big thanks to my dad for opening this growler on Christmas.
The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is very nice. I get a ton of bourbon and chocolate notes, as well as some roasted malt. As the beer warms, some other notes from the barrel aging come through including maple and vanilla. Overall, the beer smells boozy.
The flavor is also very complex. What comes through first is the booze and the bourbon notes, but the vanilla and maple are also quite prominent. The roasted malt is a strong player in the flavor, but the chocolate is not as strong as in the aroma. As the beer warms some nice dark fruit notes begin to make an appearance and they go very well with the other notes.
Medium to thick mouthfeel and low to medium carbonation. An outstanding beer overall. Very happy that I got to try this one.
