Draft at Bittercreek's Funkfest... Slightly hazed reddish orange brew... thin white head... Nose is tart cherry and light Belgian phenolic spiciness.. Flavor begins with the cherry and sorta dies off quickly... pale malt finishes with little else.. where did the Belgian character go? Okay.

Cherries, Citric, Crackery, Spicy

A hazy, red hued beer with a short-lived white lace. Smells like cherry pie—complete with crust and soft spices. Lively carbonation that creams up when it hits the palate. Tart cherries up front with a citric smack (not overly acidic), salty suggestions and a crackery malt undertone that meets some spicy phenols and lingers. The cherry flavors become more pronounced and layered as the beer warms. Drinks very well and becomes moreish with each sip.

Great fruit presence, but the Ardennes yeast is too estery for me.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a medium reddish orange with a finger of light khaki head that dissipates to a thick cap with lots of lacing. Aroma of cherry, strawberry, Belgian yeast, a hint of wild yeast funk. Flavor is tart cherry, a mixture of Belgian and wild yeast, neutral malt. Finishes with light cherry, a bit dry and tart and a hint of funk; subdued. Medium bodied with sharp, peppery carbonation. Although there is some nice cherry in this, it is all somewhat understated and mellow. Not fruity and sweet enough to be a sweet kriek and not funky enough to be a wild/sour ale. I'm not a sour fan, so I'm glad for the latter. I drank this with satisfaction, but there's nothing here to really draw me back. I'd go for a sweet cherry kriek over this. Well made, but not too exciting. Looked and smelled quite nice.

Looks beautiful; garnet / auburn with a few inches of head that fades fairly quickly but re-energizea nicely with a quick swirl. The smell is great. cherry, a bit of funk, some hops, Belgian notes ... mostly hay and pasture, farmy must. The taste falls short of this. The front end is crisp, moving into nice cherry flavor, not sweet, but the finish is flatter than it should be - missing acidity, or some extra hoppiness to make it pop perhaps. Finishes a bit bitter and musty, mouth coating. On the cusp of being very, very good ... if only the flavor could live up to that smell.
