absolutely gorgeous brett saison here, a single brett strain really gives it a cool fruity layer, the funk and maturity and oak are all over it, yet the beer is somehow light, even delicate, and crisp. its golden with just a light orange glow, a tall white head from the tap, and remarkable clarity for what it is. aroma is peaches and dried apricots and hay, with some obvious wheat and pils malt on the grain side, and a lightly sweet and vanilla forward wood profile, hints of white wine and pear here too, mouthwatering and ever so slightly tart. more tropical notes to the taste, kiwi and peach to me, even a hint of raw coconut, all from the brett it seems. high fizz pushes wet musty danky funk through the whole beer, but there are french saison yeast notes under that too, more white wine, apple, and straw. a beer of fabulous refinement and complexity, totally fermentation forward, only minimally sour, and really very compelling. its amazing how many things double mountain does well, it seems they more than cover all the bases, and the beers are epic more often than not. this was a highlight from our recent visit, super funky, lovely brett profile, very drinkable too for a beer this dynamic. sure to age well, but i dont know if it was bottled or not...
