In the spring of 2021, we partnered with the Danske Øldommere to host the “2021 Fanø Homebrew World Championship,”
Karsten Hviid’s “Kukkedal Saison” beat out over 70 other entries and was judged the winner. In September we welcomed Karsten to Fanø for a day of brewing where he helped us brew this scaled-up version of his wonderfully balanced French saison.
Aromatic yeast esters of citrus fruits and spice dominate the nose and are complimented by the late additions of Amarillo and Cascade hops. Pale orange in color, this saison has a quenching acidity and medium body.
It is our hope that you enjoy this faithful recreation of Karsten’s “Kukkedal Saison” as much as we enjoyed making it with him.

Copenhagen 16/2 2022. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Drawing of what looks like a real estate solicitor with a lot off generic red houses in the background.
Pours unclear - almost opaque - golden yellow with a big white head. Settles as a 4 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with yeasty scent. Sweet pale malts, musty cellar, sour cheese and a bit of lemon.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, greasy, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is fairly intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a lurking bitter undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is dry.
Fine dry take on a Saison.
