Grand River Brewing's "Curmudgeon ESB" was purchased in Columbus Ohio in a bottle that has been from other reviews WAS an IPA, this is an ESB per the label and just received note that it is their seasonal. Pours with a THICK HUGE HEAD and thick foam lacing on the glass. Toffee and medium roasted malts come through on the nose with a light roasted caramel note. Medium amber hue with a fantastic complex malt character of light caramel, light toffee, medium roasted grains, and a dash of brown sugar with an ESB bitterness that gives light bite but fades to sweet malts. VERY COMPLEX for an ESB and a winner. The nose is so inviting and complex that it is a new favorite in this often overlooked style from England brewed in Ontario (they should be very proud of this one!). An excellent session beer with a light kick from alcohol. A good starter for the inexperienced beer drinker and a find for the beer nut in all of us. Cheers.
