Brett Saison is a spelt Saison, dry-hopped and fermented with added Brettanomyces. 5,3% abv. It is blond, opalescent ; its very persistent foam is creamy and fine. Very aromatic and fruity, its nose is reminiscent of pineapple, quince, apricot, and gooseberry. A ‘funky’ touch, typical of Brettanomyces, completes the picture. In the mouth these same flavors are intensified and accompanied by notes of cereals, a floral touch, and a final that evokes lime zests. Its attack is mellow, but its finish is dry and bitter — typical character traits of the 1920s Saisons. It is extremely refreshing, which inspired its name : in the Flanders of olden times, Bruwers beer was a light and thirst-quenching beer that was mainly drunk by brewery workers. Brett Saison is tested and approved by our team and does not deny its origins!

This beer is nothing to look at in the glass. It looks like cloudy urine, but it is a saison - so who cares? The smell is a mixture of horse blanket and better, but the taste is its best characteristic. The brettamyces flavors stand out creating multiple layers of complexity. The finish is dry and bitter. There is definitely something horsey tasting about this beer. Either you will love it or hate it. I loved it.

Dated best before 11/25, bottled 11/22, into a wide wine glass.

Pours a pale golden with some decent foam, not much lacing. Aroma is pungent, extremely fruity and sour. Lots of sweet vinegar and some grain. On the nose, this is much less sour than initially expected, with a soft hit of grain followed by vinegar, and a long, dry, funky finish. Quite spice-forward, a little soapy (not in a bad way), and overall restrained. The funk approaches as I get more into the bottle, with some mild horsey flavors and musky dryness. Body is very light and mouthfeel is quite peppy, with the carbonation helping with the bitter finish and grassy flavors.

Overall, not worth what I paid, but a light, refreshing saison. I was hoping for more aggressive flavors and sourness/funkiness, but it's very drinkable and quite nice, especially with a meal.
