Crisp & Bitter is a collaboration with our English friends of the famous Burning Sky brewery. The origin of the name? While developing the recipe, Yvan asked the brewmaster Mark Tranter which kind of beer he wanted to brew. His very British answer was: “It should be crisp and bitter, like us!”
The colour is golden blond. The beer has a natural haziness due to the massive dry-hopping and the use of a small amount of oats. The hops used in the process are a mix of new English and German varieties, which give fruity flavours of tropical fruits, papaya and mandarin zest. In the taste we have accents of bitter orange, mandarine, exotic flowers, and gooseberry. The bitterness is long, balanced, very fresh. The aftertaste is pleasantly dry.

On tap at Nüetnigenough in Brussels, Belgium.
This one pours a light golden orange-ish color, with a fluffy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells quite tropical, with some white pepper, lemon candy, tangerine, and passionfruit.
This is much more tropical and “juicy” than De La Senne’s hoppy beers tend to be, but in a pretty good way. It’s got exotic tropical notes, Meyer lemon, tangerine, passionfruit, and melon, with a dry peppery and piney finish. There’s very little Belgian yeast characteristics.
This is light bodied, crisp (!), bitter (!!) and finishes cleanly, with a nice drinkability.
De La Senne remains one of my absolute favorite Belgian breweries.
