Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep golden color with a big billowy white head. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading rather fast to leave a moderate showing of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heavy rye and wheat with a whole lot of black pepper and yeasty smells. Along with these aromas comes some spice smells of coriander along with some floral and grassy hop and a decent showing of some fruity smells of peach and pear.
Taste- The taste begins with a wheat and rye bread flavor as well as a good showing of fruitiness of peach and apricot right from the start. There is a decent amount of a tartness as well, which gets slightly stronger as the taste advances. The apricot and peach grow stronger and, all while a big coriander and clove flavor develop. Flavors of a yeasty nature and a bit of hay and grassy develop toward the middle of the taste, getting decently strong as the taste moves to the end. With the fruit getting even stronger at the end, as well as the nice arrival of more hay and grassy flavors, one is left with rather enjoyable spiced, yeasty, rye, funked taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the rye flavors of the brew the chewiness is fantastic with the tartness mellowed and invigorated by the higher carbonation. Overall the feel was pretty nice.
Overall – A very tasty take on a saison. This was a very flavorful and enjoyable brew overall and one I would recommend.
