Growler picked up at the brewpub and shared with the Boise geeks tonight... Pours a slightly hazed golden brew with a decent enough white head... Pear and white peppercorn in the nose... Light pale malt has some hints of peppery phenol and underripe pear ester... Pretty proper Saison... One of the best beers I had in my recent MT trip.

a nice saison here, definitely not retired, it was on tap all weekend. glowing orange, a very vibrant looking beer, with white fizzy bubbles turning into a snowy frosty head. the nose is just a touch generic on the yeast front. warm fermentation esters on a classic 3711 type french strain, nice, but commonplace. the wheat base has a little more roast on it than others, pushing the caramel realm, but lacking sweetness and staying light in texture and in length. the flavor is very good, just very familiar. a page out of the french saison book here, no little tweaks or anything to make it their own, but a darn good example of the style here. one dimensional on some ways, but mostly because i know it. if this were the first of its kind i had ever had i would be over the moon, and maybe the montana market is a little closer to that demographic, but thats all my speculation. great carbonation, almost wine-like in the finish, tart and clean, vibrantly effervescent, and just a pretty solid easy drinking saison for me. well made, nothing new, but its real good like all the beers at carters.

750ml bottle acquired in trade. 2007 vintage.
Poured a medium to deeper and hazy yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aromas of citrus, orange peels, spices, and yeast. Tastes of spices, doughy yeastiness, citrus, and straw.
