So I've going to the otter for over ten years. I'm newer to ba. So I gave the three pine's another shot after a long hiatus. It was great! Defined by an amazing floral aroma is really a great hoppy IPA

NEWSFLASH: This is an English IPA made with Fuggle and East Kent Golding hops. If you wnat dank, resin, sap, pine, and rustic bitter from American hops look elsewhere.
A: Clouded medium amber to sunkist orange. Looks oily. 1/4 filmy head. Little lacing.
S: Strong woodsy/orange aroma. Tangerine citrus, not too much in terms of sweet florals. Maybe some earthy clover. Musky and sulfuric scent reminiscent of white grapes; this sulfur scent may be offputting, but is typical in EIPA variants. Strong malted toffee. Sweet grass.
M: Very very very smooth. Low body and very light feel. A tad watery. Low carbonation. Nothing for flavor to grip onto.
T: Tastes better than peripherals. Balanced well between sweet and bitter. Muted bitternes, yet underriding throughout aftertaste. Pine sap, orange citrus, pineapple, and melon twang. Biscuit, honey, and toffee, contributed from malts.

First had: on tap at their brewpub
I'm trying my best to give the Gilded Otter beers better ratings, but it just isn't happening. Too bad...I like the place, but the brews are mostly just sub-par. [anti-homerism]
The IPA looked fine enough; clear amber pour with a wispy layer of white bubbles on top, and a thin ringlet about the perimeter. Light aroma, vaguely floral hops, touches of pine, standard malt base. Taste was similar to the aroma, with a grainy malt background overlaid with light floral hops, pine bark, bittering and a bit metallic all the way through, with a sensation of chewing on construction paper. Without a significant alteration of the recipe, this can never be a good IPA. Light body, thin mouthfeel; tolerable, but not revisitable.

I hate knocking beers but I cant say this one was anything but substandard when put up against the many well made IPAs on the market, and I'm not talking about Pliny or flower power.
The appearance was off; a bit cloudy and urine colored with very little head, retention, or more than a bit of patchy lace rather than the creamy sheets you find in most quality IPAs.
The aroma was weak and very mild..a touch of pine and to much caramel malt. The flavors were rather muddled, with aspects of floral and pine hops and a lot of generic maltiness; nothing was very distinct or particularly appealing and there was more hop bitterness than hop flavor.
Oh and the mouthfeel was odd too..thin and prickly without being clean, crisp, or dry. Sorry but this was an unimpressive effort.

Just had my first visit at the Gilded Otter and it was great. I enjoyed their RIS which was outstanding, followed by their altbier, ending with a growler of this to go. It was a no brainer based on the past two beers I tried and the small sample of this treat sealed the deal.
Appears enticing with a murky copper orange/tangerine hue. A good amount of suds and lace stick around, certainly delicious and fresh looking.
I really enjoy this aroma of slight apricots, and just a pleathera of pleasant aromas ranging from crisp baked biscuts to piney and floral grass and earth notes. Fuckin' great.
The taste is very pleasing and follows through with notes of piney resin and a contrasting caramel malt sweetness. A good range of flavors all around.
Light-medium bodied with just the right of carbonation IMO. Good brew to put back a few without getting too toasted.
Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this IPA. After I ordered the growler, I second thought my decision and might have prefered their Altbier. However as I sip this Three Pines IPA I have no regrets, and look forward to going back ASAP for another pint or 2 and a growler to go. Good beer made by good people, check it out.
