Named after the canyon in which the dam is built, this rich, dark beer is made with four varieties of malt. Minnesota two-row brewers, English chocolate, black malt and roasted barley give a pleasant coffee-like character to the finish. This ruby-black brew is perfectly balanced with East Kent Goldings and Liberty hops.

Pours light brown and clear with little viscosity. Smells almost like a sour beer. It is a bitter souring finish with very little chocolate on the nose or the taste. Thin mouth feel.

Black with dark walnut highlights. Thin head quickly breaks apart into several bubble islands and the collar leaves several drippy lace rings.
With an earthen soil and scant roasted notes, the aroma is more akin to a dark brown ale than any stout. Taste follows up on that statement with hardly any roasted tones and a juicy mouthfeel. Few apple juice esters poking through.
I like this beer better if I pretend it's English dark brown ale. So that's what I did.

Appearance: dark brown almost black in color with a big 2" head that lasted a while. Some mild lacing developed.
Smell: big roasted malt aroma rises from the glass. Some soft chocolate is detectable too.
Taste: this has a grainy roasted malt profile with some mild chocolate flavors that arrive late. Bitterness is soft but brings it into balance.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp to start, smooth and lightly dry at the finish. Aftertaste is short and focuses on the grainy roasted malt flavors.
Drinkability: decent stout that could serve as a session beer here.
