750ml cork and cage bottled poured into a snifter
2015, Bottle 283/400
A- pours viscous pitch black color with a one-finger creamy dark brown head that retains before settling into a ring around the edge, plenty of alcohol legs, one of the darkest heads I've seen
S- initial aroma smells like a orange cream-filled chocolate truffle. Undertones of bourbon barrel gives aroma of spicy oak, vanilla & dark fruit. Finishes with coffee and lightly charred malt
T- taste follows aroma up front; creamy orange nougat mixes with dark chocolate truffle & vanilla. Bourbon barrel meshes in mid-palate with notes of wet oak, peppery bourbon & light caramel. The finish gives dark malt, figs & more bourbon
M- viscous body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a creamy silky finish with just a hint of alcohol warmth
O- the orange is subtle but certainly noticeable and a great compliment to an already great barrel aged stout
