750ml cork & cage bottle poured into a snifter
2015 release, bottle 219/400
Aged 12 months in bourbon barrels
A- pours a thick and viscous jet black color with a small foamy khaki colored head that reduces to a ring around the edge
S- slightly smoky charred malt up front gives some notes of dark chocolate before revealing some spicy bourbon aromas, along with wet oak & caramel. Undertones of vanilla, having trouble finding and coconut
T- dark chocolate malt & cola flavors up front with hints of molasses. Mid-palate brings plenty of woody bourbon and some spicy notes, along with just a hint of vanilla. The finish brings notes of fig, caramel, soy sauce and earthy wood on the linger.
M- thick bodied with medium-low carbonation leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a velvety viscous finish
O- 12 months in a barrel has produced a pronounced bourbon note throughout. I had trouble picking out the vanilla and coconut, but otherwise a solid BA stout that is a great choice for those who like bourbon-forward stout.
