Ok, a black IPA, been a while, but this one is a dark chestnut with a contrasting off-white head. Lacing is decent in wavy streams on my glass.
Nose is a bit muted in my environment, but I’m getting a mild bitter grapefruit on a mild roasted malt/burnt toast base. I’ll give it a slight benefit of the doubt here.
Taste is surprising: it’s near a regular balanced, citrusy bitter IPA. The roasted aspect is an undertone that gets a bit more obvious near the end of the sip. Orange/ripe peach high notes, lower bitterness, a burnt nut sorta roastiness in back, but behind a decent tingling feel of ruby pith.
An interesting mix of a more mild black IPA. It’s a tad more fruity and less bitter than a porter. I’m a bit of a sucker fur a citrusy black IPA, but this one was unique even within my enjoyment realm.
