On tap at the Blue Mountain tasting room in Afton, VA around St. Patrick's Day. Served in a traditional pint glass.

Appearance: An opaque brown beer with a great creamy head (great nitro action), the most amazingly fine bubble structure, and sticky lacing. Ain't nitro tap great?

Aroma: The smell isn't too prominent - not atypical for the style - but what is there is solid. A slight toasted malt aroma and faint hops. Maybe the smell is encapsulated in that gorgeous, fluffy nitro head?

Taste: Dark toasted malts betray hints of dark chocolate and half-city roast coffee - which lends a bit of a snappy, sour note to the brew, very interesting - and a good balance of hop bitterness. Solid.

Mouthfeel: Thin, as you'd expect, with low internal carbonation. I'm not a huge IDS fan, and it's one of those styles that I have to consciously remind myself to grade "to the style." Ergo, I'm going to assume this is what they were going for. That being said, the flavor is a little fuller than what you'd used to getting from, say, a Guinness (or at least, a comparable IDS - turns out Guinness isn't vegetarian, so I've never had one), so it might be nice if the body were in turn a little fuller.

Drinkability: Great - it's easy drinking, flavorful, low in alcohol, and nothing really wears on you. Any shortcomings in the mouthfeel are also largely ameliorated by the nitro tap.

Kicks Murphy's butt, and takes Beamish's mom out for dinner and then never calls again. I'm sure it's better than Guinness too. A good example of what passion for your craft can result in, even with regard to a style I'm not crazy about.

A-Deep clear brown with a thick, fluffy tan head. Left significant lacing.

S-Slight roasted malt aroma but somewhat hard to smell through the thick cap of that fluffy head.

T-Plenty of roasted malt with hints of chocolate with a nice hop roasty bitterness. A fully flavoured brew. Slight sourness in background and aftertaste.

M-Rich taste betrayed by a light body (although they claim that is what they are going for) I would personally like to have a bit more bidy to back up the full flavoured taste.

D-Desipte the lack of solid mouthfeel this is a very easy drinking and pleasant dry stout.
