Served on-tap at Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton, VA
A: Pours a clear medium to dark brown in color with some moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some hints of dark amber in the highlights. The beer has a finger tall frothy light tan head that slowly reduces to a very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts and pine/resin hops.
T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of dark malts with some light molasses sweetness and that is followed by moderate flavors of pine/resin and earthy hops. Moderate amounts of bitterness that linger for a moderate amount of time.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.
O: Enjoyable but not quite as easy to drink as some of the other hoppy offerings from Blue Mountain Brewery (I also had Full Nelson and the Oaked IPA on the same day and they had superior drinkability). Not my favorite profile of hop aromas flavors but well constructed.
