Our new Long Root Ale is a great beer—with great purpose. Beyond the crafted Grapefruit hop flavor, beyond the balanced maltiness lies a story as refreshing as its dry, crisp finish.
We've teamed up with Hopworks Urban Brewery to create great tasting beer that’s the first to be made with Kernza®, a perennial grain grown using regenerative agriculture practices. We believe the future of farming lies in organic regenerative agriculture which restores soil biodiversity, sequesters carbon, and efficiently grows crops without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
Our delicious pale ale is brewed with organic two-row barley, organic yeast, organic Chinook, Mosaic and Crystal hops, and Kernza. Kernza’s long root system and perennial growth allows it to thrive without tilling, preserving precious top soil. It also uses less water than conventional wheat, removes more carbon from the atmosphere and makes one damn good beer.

Little hazy medium gold, no real head. Nose is malt and light citrus. Middle is orange, medium kilned malt, fruity earthiness, little graham cracker. Finish is lightly fruity. 50 IBUs Rated 12-13-2019

I’ve read about this, but I didn’t think I’d encounter it at my local Trader Joe’s. Let’s get to cracking.
Pours a honeyed amber with a creamy head. Impressive foam retention. Citrusy peel, pith, and pine sap dominant.
Less than a month out but the aroma has some of that “faded hop” character, and especially on the sip there’s a bit of wet cardboard/worty malt flavor to it. The more of this I drink the less I like it.

12 oz can from Hops and Bottles. Bright, clear golden, fine carbonation, fluffy head, good retention. Malty, bready aroma, musty. Taste is more flavorful malts, bready, dry. Light bitterness. Pretty tasty.

ive been waiting awhile to try this one, cool they are going organic on the ingredients and using salmon safe hops and all. this beer kind of fell into my lap, cool experience. anyway, its a nice pale ale, and its exactly that, a pale ale, so many of these northwestern pales are pushing the hop envelope into ipa land in terms of intensity, dry hop boldness, and bitterness, so its nice to drink such a balanced beer and one with so much malt character, which this definitely has! it almost looks like it comes from a nitro tap here, with clinging white lace rings after each sip and a milkshake thick white head that recedes to a quarter inch but then becomes permanent. its light on carbonation too and really has that same fast drying finish, but its not a nitro pour, just looks and feels and tastes like one. i like how the hops are kind of reserved, they are but one element of this, not the only leader of flavor, the malt has a ton to give, toasted to me, but dry, and with some body, almost a graham cracker taste, nice with the light citrus and oily pine from the hops that ramp up only slightly towards the swallow. the flavor is sort of one dimensional, or maybe not that, but like uniform, not a lot of highs and lows or changes from start to finish, its an even trajectory and thats not a bad thing. bitterness is persistent but not too much, body is creamy to me, and the beer is obviously made for all season drinking. i am always skeptical when breweries do collaborations with companies outside of beer, but this is tasty! the texture is awesome.

I got a can of this from who? I think Kenny. If I'm giving the wrong props, sorry, but given you're the only Oregonian I have talked with over the last year, I'm pretty sure you sent this.
So this was poured into a becher pint glass, and delivered a bronzed amber color with a small white semi-foamy head subsiding at a decent pace. Some light messy lace ran around my glass.
The aroma had some citrusy hop sweetness with some orange rind bitterness and a stifled biscuity malt.
The flavor moderately leaned towards the sweet end but developed a keen bitterness with some warmth. Fairly easy going aftertaste of citrusy hops and soft biscuity malts.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Hops are not bothersome at all in any sort of harshness that could possibly be detected. Carbonation felt good. Some smoothness bumping at my tongue then finishes semi-crisp with some maltiness.
Overall, pretty good as an APA, I could come back to.

I wish they had not overdosed on bitter hops when the brewed this. It would be nice to get a sense of what Kernza tastes like. At least I hope it taste like wheat, and not like green tea with unripe persimmon. Sharp and woody.
The best feature is the sudsy mouthfeel. The bit of sweetness is all too fleeting. Very resiny and bitter aftertaste. From the 16 oz can purchased in the far north.

In the Taste, there are interesting beers. Then in the making and ingredients, others are interesting.
Long Root is interesting in the latter.Mostly because of the experiment with this new grain Kernza that has so many positive environmental impacts. (This almost justifies having another.)
Looks are OK. Smells are citric; backed with a malt backbone. Tastes eventually become bitter, but that may have to do as much with this spicy grain as bitter hops. Moderate Feel.
I'm wondering if this grain can be tested with a saison to reverse the trend of them becoming hoppier.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber color covered by a very modest head; spotty lacing
Smell: Orange marmalade and pith, with an herbal, almost peppery, element
Taste: Orange marmalade forward with an herbal, peppery aspect, much like an herbal cough drop; moderately bitter, through the middle and after the swallow; the unusual flavor dominates the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: An interesting beer, because of the Kernza, but I can't say I would seek it out again
Thanks, AleHunter805, for the opportunity

Strong citrus/grapefruit hop flavor hits you up front, overall general bitter taste throughout. Lots of suspended particulates makes for a nice viscous mouthfeel. Smells pretty yeasty. Overall a good introduction to Kernza as a viable beer ingredient.
