I love their Winter Abominable, and this fresh hop version is just as good, but a little different as their winter one is higher in ABV and darker. Had this beer on tap at their East Vancouver site. Very good! Rated 9-16-2020

Taster at Growler Guys. Clear amber, patchy head. Malty aroma, caramel, toffee. Taste is more sweet malts, with a thin layer of bittering hops and mild astringency.

They call this an "India Style Red Ale." I suddenly realized this was the fresh hop version-- though not so fresh being canned 9/2/22. Pours a very lovely red amber with plenty of foam in the chalice. Aroma is not so evident but on the musty side. Sudsy mouthfeel is also a plus. The taste is kind of peculiar with grapes and a sourish woody note. Winey and off-kilter. This isn't that bad but by this time of the evening it's going down the drain. Let's see-- when is hop harvest season?

12oz can served in footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 09/02/22.

Pours a dark reddish-amber with a big, creamy, tan-colored head. Smell is slightly caramel and toffee, with some cut vegetation.

Taste is interesting -- a fruity sweetness with some burnt toffee and nuts, and a streak of resin.

Mouthfeel is very dry but not very light. Overall, it's more interesting than good, but it's not bad.

Canned 8/29/22. It's red, it's malty, but it doesn't really showcase any fresh hops that I can tell. I usually like this style when it actually is hoppy but this is a malt bomb.

Abominable Fresh Hop IPA from Hopworks Urban Brewing. Received two 12 oz cans in a LIF from @snaotheus. Stored at home at 40 degrees. Reviewed 24/09/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Marked on bottom of can “PACKAGED 23AUG21”. Served at 40 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 47.4 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Amber (SRM 9), murky.
Body – Deep Amber (SRM 15), opaque and dirty. When rear-lite, more of a gold tone and translucent.
Head – Small (Maximum 1.3 cm, aggressive center pour), almond, high density, average retention, diminishing to a seven to eight mm undulating thin crown and a partial rocky cap.
Lacing – Good. Multiple bands of tiny bubble torn lacing which eventually meld into one wide band.
Aroma – 3.5 – Initially weakly malty, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins with a slightly sweet taste of caramel malt, no yeast, and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Distinctly no pine. No ethanol (7.3 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, watery, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 Looks like fresh apple cider but the good lacing balances out some of the ugliness. Flavor is weakly malty with virtually no hoppiness. Subsequent belches are markedly malty and provide more hop flavor than the initial quaffing. An oddly malty IPA but not bad.
