Sampled multiple times via gravity pour at Brewvival.

Pours a muddy dark brown color with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of lightly roasted malts with large amounts of smooth dark chocolate and hints of tobacco.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though more complex. Moderately roasted malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by semi-sweet chocolate flavors. Midway through the sip very slight hints of dark fruit flavors work their way into things before being overrun by earthy tobacco flavors. The light tobacco and dark chocolate carry through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a smooth thickness with soft carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I was a fan of this beer, despite the fact that some of the nibs made their way into my glass. A very earthy influence that didn't overpower the original flavor profile. Well worth a shot.

On-tap at Brewvival 2011.

I couldn't wait to try this one, the Milk Stout from COAST is one of the best examples of the style I've ever had. This one is the cask version that's been aged on Cocoa Nibs. Yum! Appearance is dark inky black with a thin mocha-colored head. Smells much the the regular milk stout, lots of malt, coffee-and-cream, and of course chocolate. Taste is similar, perfectly balanced between the malt, coffee, lactose and sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, nice and velvety smooth, with lower carbonation, as expected. Amazingly drinkable, just like every other COAST offering!
